History
The Crusader was one of the earliest Protectorate warjack designs and the oldest one still in active service. It was designed and built before the Protectorate was allowed a standing army due to the Cygnaran Civil War peace terms.[1]
The Fire of Salvation and Blood of Martyrs are two notable Crusaders that have developed affinities to Grand Exemplar Mikael Kreoss and Thyra, Flame of Sorrow respectively. Both did so in the grueling battles during the Siege of Sul.[1][2]
Properties
From casual inspection it looks like a labourjack,[1] which is little more than a clever ruse by the builders. The Crusader has heavy armour and when equipped with an Inferno mace, a weapon inspired by the weapons wielded by the Reclaimers, it is capable of easily destroying enemy warjacks. Its weight and age does however reduce its speed and agility, making it slower than more modern Protectorate warjacks like the Reckoner. Even though the Crusader is outperformed in many aspects by its peers it remains in active service almost a hundred years after its conception.[1]
Over the decades the Crusader has been refitted and modified into several other variants, including the Vanquisher and the Templar. Even the revered Guardians and Indictors are built upon the Crusader as a foundation.
