Etymology

History

Ancient Calacia

In 6500 BR the Menite faithful followed the instruction of their priests and reached the shore of Mermedius where they established their first city, Icthier. Menoth, the Creator of Man, inscribed the Canon of the True Law at Icthier. The True Law established the rule of the Priest-Kings, the chosen of Menoth. The first of these divinely appointed rulers was Cinot who delivered the Gift of the Sheaf. It is said that Cinot turned ash to grain and salt to nectar. The Menites built aqueducts and irrigation canals to water and feed their people. They quarried stone and built mighty walls and dwellings. Their priests and soldiers made war against savage heathens and wild beasts. Cinot led his people for four centuries until his death. The city of Icthier however remained the center of Menite civilization long after the death of Cinot. 2a

In 4000 BR the Time of the Burning Sky wrought great devastation in Icthier. The survivors abandoned Icthier and settled at the mouth of the Black River. For centuries these small villages kept their Menite faith. Subjected to attacks by horrible monsters and barbarous tribes they stubbornly held on. In 2800 BR the Warrior-Priest Valent of Thrace united these scattered communities into a single state, Thrace. They set to quarrying stone and felling timber to raise the walls of a fortress which was called Calacia, the Shield of Thrace. 2b

In time the people of Calacia learned to work iron and even steel, their soldiers possessed steel arms and mail armor unmatched by their enemies. Their armies fought with order and discipline and armed themselves with powerful longbows. Their priests inspired them with their prayers and cleansed the servants of the Devourer Wurm with burning flame. 2b
