The Chimera, dubbed the Child of the Pit by the skorne, is a deranged, insane, nameless dragon that roams the Abyss that divides western and eastern Immoren.

History

The chimera, like the rest of the dragons, were created by their father Lord Toruk when he split off pieces of his own athanc to create a brood of dragons to be his servants, and from each splinter a dragon came into being. Unfortunately for Toruk, his brood proved to be exactly like him, right down to an unwillingness to take orders, and turned on him.[1] Toruk eventually destroyed many lesser dragons, and the rest fled and scattered across Immoren.[2]

A dragon, whose name is now lost to time, made a lair for himself near the elven Empire of Lyoss in central Immoren. In 4000 BR, when the Bridge of Worlds, built by the elves to bring their gods to Caen from the Veld, collapsed, the dragon's body was destroyed and his athanc permanently damaged and warped by the great torrent of vast and sweeping power. As he regenerated his body, the creature no longer remembered his name, past life, true form, or true nature.[3]

Ever since the Cataclysm, the dragon, now dubbed the 'chimera', has roamed around the Abyss, taking out his fury on all but the most insignificant beings he encounters. Despite the native draconic intellect, the chimera remembers no language, does not plot and functions completely on instinct, knows only rage and incomparable loss, and finds relief only in slaughter and devastation.[3]

The chimera came to be feared by the skorne, who call him the Child of the Pit, a terrible beast spawned from the Abyss, an enormous horror whose shape was different every time it was seen, and any who faced it died a terrible death.[3]
