Though the Ripjaw’s existence was not confirmed until the Scharde Invasions, Cygnaran medics and chaplains had for decades noted the terrible wounds found on the corpses of soldiers. Retreating Cygnarans near Highgate produced the first reliable report of the Ripjaw in 586 AR, describing a pack of the bonejacks converging on an Ironclad and shredding it within seconds.
The Ripjaw demonstrates an almost bestial cunning in battle as it moves alongside other bonejacks, circling its prey and marking out the weak. It prefers to hamstring its victims and then set upon them after they fall, holding them in place with its jaws while its bone saw cuts them into mangled, unidentifiable bits. Ripjaws have been observed seeking after joints with particular enthusiasm, chopping through knees and elbows whether the victims are already dead or still screaming and struggling. Regardless of these lethal weapons, the Ripjaw remains quick and agile and serves its warcaster by manoeuvring its arc node to wherever required.
If left to their own devices Ripjaws will sometimes dwell on corpses, dismembering them into component parts until called to task. This habit has its uses, as necrotechs sometimes appreciate that the pieces it leaves behind are more easily incorporated into their gory fabrications.
